The most difficult thing for beginners is to control all 4 needles that the stitches are on and to prevent the stitches from slipping off the needles. It’s annoying when you suddenly realize while knitting that stitches have slipped and the whole work has been ruined. This can be very demotivating, especially for those who are new to the world of knitting with Double Pointed Knitting Needles. In this blog post, we would like to give you some tips and avoid such annoying experiences. Because you should enjoy the positive benefits of knitting.
An important point is the right choice of knitting needles. Double Pointed Knitting Needles made of a wide variety of materials are available on the market. Whether metal, aluminium, wood or bamboo, each material has its own advantages. As Mindful Collection we offer the robust and durable Stainless Steel Knitting Needles. These slide through your wool by themselves, but at the same time offer the necessary to give you a good grip in your hands and the stitches don’t slip off.
To ensure you have enough space for your stitches, choose the right length of knitting needles for your project. Just like the length, the strength of the needles is also important. Here you can try out the different strengths and find the ideal strength for your project. With our Mindful Collection Double Pointed Knitting Needle Sets you will find all the most common sizes in one set and can thus be completely equipped for your projects.
The hardest part of 5-needle knitting is the cast-on and first rows. This is exactly what scares most beginners. But you can’t do much wrong, don’t be put off and just pull through the rows.
That’s how it works:
The total number of stitches that needs to be cast on for your project is divided into 4 and divided between the 4 knitting needles. For example, if you need a total of 80 stitches for your project, you will need to cast on 20 stitches on each needle. Do not cast on these stitches too tightly, but also not too loosely. Now it’s on to the first row. Make sure that you continue crocheting with the yarn and not with the starting thread.
The first row is the most difficult and you probably won’t like knitting it. But there are 2 simple tricks you can use to make it a little easier for yourself. Don’t knit the first row in the pattern, just knit right stitches. And so that the stitches don’t fall off and you get a little security in the first row, simply insert the fourth needle into the ball of yarn. This gives a little more support and stability and makes the first row easier for you. Make sure you maintain the tension of the thread and don’t lose it when changing needles and hold it too loose or too tight.
From now on, the next rows will become easier and more pleasant from row to row. Also by getting used to the thread position and tension. From the second row you can now start knitting according to the pattern. The transition in the front rows won’t be very nice and you probably won’t like it, but don’t worry because it’s completely normal and shouldn’t demotivate you in your work. Later, when the thread is sewn up, you can easily close the transition holes of the first round.
