Step 1. Create my Garmin Express account

1. Visit www.garmin.com from your system.
2. Create a new Garmin account if you don’t have one.
3. Enter the desired information, read the terms of agreements and click Agree in front of the Terms of use and Privacy statement checkbox.
4. Click Next.
5. You may also subscribe to the communications or newsletters.

Step 2. Register your Garmin device

1. Log in to your Garmin account by using the newly created ID and password.
2. Connect your Garmin GPS to the computer using a USB cable.
3. Under the Home tab, click Register.
4. Now you should choose the type of device that you want to register.
5. Click Continue and keep following the on-screen instructions until the registration completes.

Step 3. Purchase and download Garmin maps

1. Open your Garmin account and click my Maps tab.
2. Here you will see the installed maps and updates, if available.
3. See if Free Update Available appears next to your Garmin device name and click over it.
4. If you want to buy the maps then you must click the Update available option.
5. After that, maps available for purchase will be added to your cart, you just have to follow the instructions to get them on your system.
6. Now you just have to click the Download button and click Next to start map downloading.
7. Make sure to note down the product key and click Continue.
8. You will see the Updating device software screen in front of you, read the license agreement, and then click Accept the agreement.
9. Keep following the on-screen instructions to finish the download.
10. You should save these files in a location that’s easy to locate and remember. You can choose desktop or C drive to save the Garmin map files.

Step 4. Install the downloaded map updates

1. Keep your Garmin device connected to the computer.
2. Now visit the location where you have saved the downloaded file.
3. Right-click on the GarminMapUpdate.exe for Windows and GarminMapUpdate.dmg for Mac.
4. Choose the device that you want to update the maps in and click Continue.
5. Read the license agreement, click Accept and click Continue.
6. Now enter the product key and click Continue.
7. You will see the Ready to update your maps notification on the screen, click Continue to get the maps on your device.
8. On the pop-up that says If you want to back up the data, click Yes.
9. Now you will see the Advanced options page, here you should select the map region that you want to install.
10. You will also see the coverage of the chosen maps on your screen.
11. On the same screen, you must select the location for which you want to install the maps.
12. Click Ok once done.
13. Once the Garmin GPS map installation completes, click Continue and click Exit.
