Paintings can instantly add extra charm to your house. You can easily buy paintings online to complement the interiors of your house. While finding a good painting for your home could be an easy and effortless task, hanging it properly is not as simple as it might seem. There are several things that need proper consideration if you wish to hang a painting correctly in your house.
While you can simply use the single nail to hang the lighter paintings, heavier paintings are going to require some well-anchored hooks to stay intact or you can use studs with your nails. Moreover, you are responsible to find the right wall for your painting so that the artwork looks perfect for the place and other walls do not seem empty. The following are some tips to hang a painting correctly:
- Look for the right hanging space on the wall
A small painting is likely to have a measurement between two to three square feet. It is not a good idea to hang it on a huge empty wall. As it will make your painting appear even smaller. The better thing to do is to find a smaller section of the wall or a grid of other larger paintings to fit in the small painting. The suitable eye level for a small painting is 60 inches.
- Choose the right nail
A small painting is not going to be much heavier. You can use the regular nail to hold it well and it could be hung on the drywall as well. The nail you use must be around one and a half inches long. A nail longer than two inches is going to be inappropriately longer for the small painting. If your wall has bricks and a plaster layer then it is better to use screws with the head.
- Don’t pound the nail straight into the wall
One of the biggest mistakes people make while hanging a painting is they drive the nail straight into the wall at 90 degrees; however, this is not the correct method to do it. The right method is to hit the nail with its head slightly facing the ceiling and leave it half an inch out of the wall. Moreover, use only a light hammer for finishing as a heavy hammer can potentially damage your wall.
- Use D-ring with the painting
D-rings are usually used to hang artworks. You can attach a D-ring to the painting after measuring the width of the painting from the back and marking the middle on the top side. This is the right spot to attach the D-ring. attaching the D-ring in the middle will ensure that the painting hangs straight and remain balanced. Otherwise, it is likely to tilt on either side.
