Before getting the status of Dehing Patkai National Park, it was known as Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary and Dehing Patkai Elephant Reserve. This park came into the limelight when the white-winged wood duck is seen in the early 1990s, after that it was upgraded to upper Dehing National Park.
